Label Adhesive FormulationsLabel adhesives are made from rubber based, acrylic, and modified acrylic formulations. Each type of adhesive has distinct adhesion features. The chart below shows these three label adhesive types and rates them on some of the more common features and characteristics of importance.
There are three points that make up an adhesive type:
Label Adhesive Application ProcessDifferent manufacturing processes are used to make pressure sensitive label adhesives. Solvent - Adhesive ingredients are dissolved in solvent solution and applied to a web of material. After coating, the solvent dries leaving the adhesive Hot Melt - Thermoplastic rubbers are formulated with tackifying resins, oil and antioxidants. The adhesive is coated onto a web of material at temperatures exceeding 300F. Emulsion - Adhesive ingredients are emulsified in water, applied to a web of material and dried. |
